CURRAN MCBRIDE

OPM PII DATA BREACH

I possess a unique distinction as 'one of one' in this world, with no other individuals sharing my name. Regrettably, my identity has fallen victim to unauthorized access and exploitation resulting from data breaches at OPM due to the incompetence of federal database administrators and lax or non-existent cybersecurity protocols despite the highly-sensitive nature of the data that they were entrusted to protect. The hacking group Anonymous hit first with a specific exploit stealing a small amount of data, and then a month later, hackers linked to China struck twice using a different exploit. This wouldn't be hard to do as America had OPM contractors living in China and remoting into OPM's servers. The contractors America hired, two of which were actual Chinese citizens (OMFG!), lived, and worked in China behind that country's 'Great Firewall', and had access to every single row of data in every single database in OPM's servers. Not the smartest way to keep some of your country's most sensitive personnel data safe when the Chinese national cybersecurity threat actors are as good as, or better than those of America's, which is a statement based on simple logic. The U.S. government never acknowledged the Anonymous hack that occurred a month prior. They only publicly focused on the Chinese involvement in their curated reports that were distributed to the legacy media across the country for what should be obvious poliitical reasons.

Consequently, malicious actors are currently capitalizing on my compromised identity across various platforms. If you encounter my name on any social media platforms or similar vectors, for your own protection it would be wise to refrain from linking to or 'friending' these accounts as these are fraudulent in nature and likely attempting to social engineer you and gain access into your I.T. network or someone else's. I personally have no social media accounts and never will.
